Experimental assessment of obsidian versus chert lanceolate projectile point durability and robusticity: Semi‐static fracture strength and dynamic impact

نویسندگان

چکیده

Stone-tipped weaponry was important for the survival of past peoples, and many functional non-functional factors likely influenced their design. Two that peoples considered in design stone tips are durability (whether or not a tip breaks) robusticity (how much damage is incurred upon breakage). Many have been shown experimentally to influence robusticity, including raw material. Here, we further explore relationship between material via controlled experiments comparing chert obsidian. We first demonstrate with semi-static fracture strength analyses obsidian require less force break than do tips. then show dynamic ballistics impact testing durable robust Our results entirely consistent previous experimental comparisons versus tips, support hypothesis when presented multiple materials, weighed costs benefits process selection.

static versus dynamic assessment of l2 learners’ reading ability

dynamic assessment according to vygotskys sociocultural theory, states that instruction and assessment are interrelated. using static forms of assessment with second and foreign language students could do more harm than good. many teachers neglect to take account of the complexity involved in learning a second or foreign language and often wonder why learning of a language take so long. thi...

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Rock Dynamic Fracture

Rapid development of engineering activities expands through a variety of rock engineering processes such as drilling, blasting, mining and mineral processing. These activities require rock dynamic fracture mechanics method to characterize the rock behavior. Dynamic fracture toughness is an important parameter for the analysis of engineering structures under dynamic loading. Several experimental...

the comparative impact of prompts and recasts in processing instruction versus meaningful output-based instruction on efl learners’ writing accuracy

the purpose of the present study was to see which one of the two instruction-processing instruction (pi) and meaningful output based instruction (mobi) accompanied with prompt and recast- is more effective on efl learners’ writing accuracy. in order to homogenize the participants in term of language proficiency a preliminary english test (pet) was administrated between 74 intermediate students ...

patterns and variations in native and non-native interlanguage pragmatic rating: effects of rater training, intercultural proficiency, and self-assessment

although there are studies on pragmatic assessment, to date, literature has been almost silent about native and non-native english raters’ criteria for the assessment of efl learners’ pragmatic performance. focusing on this topic, this study pursued four purposes. the first one was to find criteria for rating the speech acts of apology and refusal in l2 by native and non-native english teachers...
